Welcome to Mr. Stradford's Class

Welcome to the 2012-13 school year at Greenbelt Middle School. Although this is a new year in a new building, our expectations remain the same. We have a lot of ground to cover this semester. For every concept introduced this year, students should move through six levels of mastery to truly learn and retain mathematical concepts. They are:
  1. Level One: Connects new knowledge to existing knowledge and experience
  2. Level Two: Searches for concrete materials to construct a model or show a demonstration of the concept
  3. Level Three: Illustrates the concept by drawing a diagram to connect the concrete example to a symbolic picture or representation
  4. Level Four: Translates the concept into mathematical notation using number symbols, operational signs, formulas, and equations
  5. Level Five: Applies the concept correctly to real-world situations, projects, and story problems
  6. Level Six: Can teach the concept successfully to others or can communicate it on a test
The first unit that we will explore is Geometry in Grade 6, and Fractions, Decimals and Percents in Grade 7. All students will receive access to the Unit Overview.
